If you're interested in children's fashion, I'm pretty sure that you will have seen this gorgeous confetti dress before. You'll probably even know that it was designed by Winter Water Factory in the States. Perhaps you bought one for your daughter, grandaughter or a friend?
However, I wonder if you knew that Winter Water Factory have just celebrated their 10th anniversary? Ten years, that's a long time for a small company created by a self-taught German textile designer and her husband. What's the secret?
Stefanie Lynen and Todd Warnock like to innovate. Their screenprints and designs are a blend of bold, graphic and whimsical, inspired by children's books, vintage wallpaper, even envelope liners. Browse their website and you will find a wide variety of patterns in different colourways for babies (Oh Joy's Capsule collection is beautiful), boys, girls and women. Winter Water Factory have been designing ladies' clothes for years and have recently introduced a limited-edition anniversary range featuring some of their favourite prints.
Of course, fresh, colourful designs are only part of the equation. Winter Water Factory have been American-Made from the outset. Every item of clothing is crafted from 100% certified organic cotton, and the Brookyln-based company strives to support the local and national economy. Last year they consolidated all of their cut-and-sew operations to a factory in the neighbourhood and hope to be able to consolidate all their contracted labour to the New York or at least East Coast area one day.
Big dreams? I bet when Stefanie and her sister bottled melted snow and sold it to their parents as "Winterwasser" (Winter Water), she had no idea that one day she would be creating fine products from all-natural resources in Brooklyn, USA.
